Here's a fun DIY project if you're looking for an alternative to the tradition curtain. We love scarves and wanted to create something to hide the ugly storage shelves in back of our store that didn't require too much time or effort, but yet easily accessible to the back stock (in this case it was for the shoes and boots). So here it is....super easy! Just a few simple steps really...

Picture

Measure the length needed for your "curtain" and cut 1/2" strips from fabric of choice. Easy and fastest way is to just tear the fabric into strips since the edges can be raw. Or you can use ribbon if you don't have fabric on hand.

Picture
Picture
Picture

Safety pin each scarf on the diagonal (if squared) or in the middle (if long, skinny) about 6" to 1 feet apart depending on how big, long, wide the scarf is.

Picture
Picture

Continue this step for the length of the strip. Generally about 3-5 scarves per strip, but again it just depends on the length of your strip.

Picture

Finally, staple gun the stand of scarves straight into the ceiling and your done! Or, you can safety pin the top to make a loop and use a curtain rod, but we prefer the staple gun method so that it doesn't move around. Adjust the length if needed....you'll see (and know) once it's up and that's it!

Picture

We also did this to our doorway.....

Have fun and you'll see how incredibly easy this is to do :)

dicken's christmas fair

The Spirit of Christmas Past at the Great Dickens Christmas Fair...

Hi, Joel here.
We had the pleasure of attending the Dicken's Fair at the Cow Palace in San Francisco this past weekend. From the moment you walk in, you're instantly transported to Victorian London circa 1840's-1860's. Amazing costumes, smell of roasted nuts, brilliant actors, arts and crafts, excellent bangers and mash, fish and chips, and of course, Scrooge. So much to see and do. Perfect for the entire family and to get you into the Christmas Spirit. This is the final weekend (until next year) so if you happen to be in the Bay Area, it's well worth a visit!

A brief history....Originally created in 1970 by my uncle and aunt Ron & Phyllis Patterson (also creators of the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire) it is now produced by my cousin Kevin and his wife Leslie of Red Barn Productions who continues the family tradition of theatrical excellence through authenticity, participation, and playfulness. Do check out their website for more information: www.dickensfair.com.

Here are some photos from our trip. Enjoy and Happy Christmas!

We can't believe 2013 is almost over with! Time really does fly by. One New Years resolution is to keep this blog more up to date. In fact, there's a handful of posts that's been waiting to be posted so there may be a blast of them in the weeks to come :)

Oh wait, it's summer....but while we're on the same kick, here's another magazine I came across.....

Joel modeling for German Vogue circa 93' with the gorgeous Talisa Soto. Was I jealous? Um, yeah! Just kidding of course...or maybe not :) But it was a fun and surreal moment the day the magazine came out and we all went to pick up some copies. Ahh, again with the memories...

I was going through one of the many piles of old magazines and came across my
favorite issue of Wallpaper magazine from the July/August 1998 issue.
Love the whole story telling with fashion, food and romance...

I love all the colors and patterns, actually I love all things Indian really, but this issue was so inspiring that
I even drew an avert (based on the 11th photo down, with all the plants and beads in the doorway)
for our old store the Evergreen Elephant (when we were in Long Beach)
and of course i couldn't find it to show you all...ahh, oh well.
spring cleaning with a trip down memory lane...

southwestern skies

We took a little Southwest trip over the holidays...and boy, there's nothing like the southwestern skies! Europe has its castles and we have our desert magic. The pictures do not give it justice nor capture the reality of what you really see with the naked eye. The beauty and serenity is so inspiring. At one point we were on top of a hill above Lake Powell...
all by ourselves.....it was amazing!

Of course a trip isn't a trip without bringing back some goodies for the shop. We're excited to showcase some of our amazing finds including this incredible collection of old pawn Native American pieces.

There's so much more southwest goodness which we'll display in the days and weeks to come.
Also, the online shop will soon be up and running......yes, finally!!!

Happy 2013 :)

seasons change

10/2/2012

The past few months has been crazy and bittersweet for us. With lots of traveling, moving house and the lost of a close family member...a cruel summer indeed!! It has been extremely hard (to say the least) but now it's time to move on...

Many of you had asked about when our next sale would be and we had planned a big "end of summer" sidewalk sale but obviously it's been too much and too difficult to even plan anything.

We welcome fall with open arms as it is our favorite season of the year (with spring being second). Since it's still "summer-like" weather, we're hoping to plan a sidewalk sale for the end of October or early November. It will be a mixed season sidewalk sale, so even better! We will keep you posted...

In the meantime, our new fall hours are as follows:

Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 1:30-6:30
Thursdays & Fridays: 12:30-6:30
Saturdays: 12:00-6:00
Sundays: by chance
Mondays: by appointment

Plus, enjoy 15% off everything in store...all month long...and, anything pink will be 20% off in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Thank you for your patience and support!
